Following a 22-10 victory against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones provided an update on the injury to starting quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott missed his fourth straight game Sunday after having surgery on his thumb, but is inching closer to a return to the field.

“We’ll see how it goes,” Jones said according to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. “He’s feeling good, made a lot of improvement. He’ll throw a lot this week.”

When Prescott injured his thumb in Week 1, the initial report was that he would miss between 6-8 weeks. If that holds true, it would put his earliest date of return at Week 7, but Jones’ comments suggest there is a possibility he could return even sooner in Week 6.

Cooper Rush has started the past four games with Dak Prescott out with injury, leading the Cowboys to a 4-0 record. However, he struggled Sunday against the Rams, being sacked three times and failed to score a touchdown for the first time since taking over as starter.

Prescott did not practice at all this past week, but it appears that could change in the next few days. The Cowboys (4-1) are scheduled to face NFC East rival Philadelphia (5-0) in a crucial matchup at 8:20 p.m. ET next Sunday.

Cowboys elevate Will Grier from practice squad ahead of Week 5

The Dallas Cowboys officially elevated former West Virginia star quarterback Will Grier from the practice squad to the active roster for Week 5. Dallas Morning News reporter Michael Gehlkin shared the expected move on Tuesday before the team announced it on Wednesday.

Grier will be the backup quarterback behind Cooper Rush, who has been filling in as the starter for the last three weeks. Dak Prescott could possibly return from injury for Week 6, which means Grier’s promotion may be brief.

Will Grier had a promising preseason for the Cowboys, throwing for 186 yards, two touchdowns, and an additional 35 rushing yards on six attempts in two games. The team signed him off waivers in September of 2021 after a two-year stint with the Carolina Panthers.

The 2019 third-round draft pick hasn’t played in a regular-season game since his first season in the league with Carolina. He completed 53.8% of his passes with no scores and four picks.
