Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones revealed Monday on SiriusXM Radio the team made a trade ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline. Jones, however, declined to reveal who the Cowboys acquired.

Scott Van Pelt of ESPN asked Jones about his previous comments during “Monday Night Countdown” ahead of the Cowboys’ Week 9 home game against the Arizona Cardinals. Jones offered another tease.

“Well, I hope you will appreciate that since the deadline is tomorrow, the details are tomorrow,” Jones said. “… The idea is are we busy thinking about it or am I sitting up here thinking about the oil and gas or am I trying to build a team? That’s trying to get our defense ready to go. I’ve taken a little kidding about some of my comments recently about our oil and gas business.

“But seriously, this is the time when we have a chance to help the Cowboys. Any time that I can do that, we burn the midnight oil and there’s a good chance we’ll have some things to talk about tomorrow.”

Jones said of the player they have apparently acquired, “immediately it will have him on the field, and it will address some of the things that have been our shortcomings.” That would indicate a move to help fix Dallas’ No. 31 ranked defense, which has allowed 404.6 yards per game and 31.3 points per game.

Report reveals players Jerry Jones has targeted for potential move

NFL insider Jordan Schultz provided further insight on the matter. According to Schultz, the Cowboys have spoken to the Cincinnati Bengals about defensive end Trey Hendrickson and linebacker Logan Wilson, and to the Miami Dolphins about linebacker Bradley Chubb.

“‘At least one deal is getting done somewhere,’ a source said,” Schultz wrote in his report.

The Cowboys have some added ammunition to make a deal following the trade of linebacker Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, which netted them two first-round picks. Jones has been open that he will use those picks to make the roster better if a deal makes sense.

“If there is a trade that would help the defense, we’re in position to make that trade,” Jones said last month. “[It] doesn’t mean we’re going to make one, but we certainly had in mind when we started this season that we were going to have ammo to be more flexible in terms of what we do with the roster as we move along this year, and of course as we get into the next couple of years.”
