Former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly faced a scary situation as his newborn grandson required medical attention upon his birth. Thankfully, Kelly offered a positive update on Friday via his Instagram page.

He revealed that the child, whose name has not been shared out of respect to privacy for the family, underwent surgery with the hopes that this will be a step in the right direction. You can view his full message below.

“Please continue to pray for our Little Bean,” Kelly wrote. “While we are so grateful that his procedure went well, the road ahead is still long and filled with many intricate, delicate steps in his healing journey. There’s so much happening beneath the surface — things only God can fully see and understand.
We are praying specifically that Little Bean’s body will begin to heal and adjust to everything that took place…”

“That his lungs and heart and all of his other vital organs will grow stronger…That he’ll be able to come off the ventilator and breathe on his own. That every organ, every function, every breath will align and respond to the intervention and critical care he’s receiving.”

Although it sounds like the operation went well, there seems to be more steps ahead to ensure that the baby is fully healthy. Kelly continued to say that the family appreciates the support they have received through this difficult time.

“This journey is very complex — and we’re trusting the One who knit him together to continue holding every detail in His hands,” he wrote. “Please also lift up Erin and Parker. They’re carrying so much as parents, and they need strength, peace, and rest in the waiting. Your prayers matter. We feel them. And we are so thankful for every one.”

Jim Kelly played for the Bills from 1986-96 and led the team to four Super Bowl appearances and six divisional championships in his career. In his retirement, he founded Hunter’s Hope after his own son, Hunter, died of Krabbe Leukodystrophy at age 8.

The foundation helps to raise research funds to help develop treatments for the rare neurological disorder. So to see him going through another health emergency with his grandson hits close to home. Hopefully for the sake of the Jim Kelly family, further positive updates will follow after this as his grandson gets closer to full health.
