Joe Burrow injury update: Bengals star may miss months, require surgery with grade 3 turf toe

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow could miss a significant amount of time after suffering a toe injury during the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Burrow could miss three months if surgery is needed on his toe. Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported that Burrow suffered a Grade 3 turf toe injury, and NFL insider Jordan Schultz said the Bengals will have full details on Monday.
Images of Joe Burrow’s left toe injury are being sent to foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, according to Schefter. The two-time NFL Comeback Player of the Year suffered the injury in the second quarter of the Bengals’ 31-27 victory over the Jaguars, when he was sacked by Jacksonville defensive end Arik Armstead.
Burrow was originally listed as questionable to return to the game after he was sent to the locker room. But the Bengals then ruled him out, and the former LSU star was seen in a walking boot with crutches when the game ended.
Joe Burrow has suffered season-ending injuries twice in his NFL career
Injuries have been an issue for Burrow in his NFL career. The 2020 No. 1 draft pick had a season-ending knee injury in his rookie season and a season-ending wrist injury in 2023. He had strong 2021 and 2024 seasons, which led to him winning the Comeback Player of the Year award twice.

Earlier this year, Burrow talked about how he was feeling heading into the 2025 season. “This is the best that I’ve felt in the offseason,” he said in May, per the Bengals’ official website. “Just like every year, trying to get better, trying to get stronger, faster, healthier. Try to find ways that you can optimize your health throughout the whole season, not hurt as much. I’m in a good spot.”
In 2024, Burrow threw for 4,918 yards and 43 touchdowns, while completing 70.6 percent of his passes. He was named to the Pro Bowl for the second time in his career and finished fourth in MVP voting.
