Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has set a date to have surgery on his turf toe. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Burrow will undergo the procedure to repair his Grade 3 turf toe on Friday at the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama. The surgery may be pushed back a few days if the swelling doesn’t subside by Friday.

On Tuesday, the Bengals placed Joe Burrow on injured reserve after suffering a toe injury during the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars this past weekend. The former LSU star is set to miss at least three months of action.

“There’s not a lot we can do right now for Joe other than I feel terrible for him because he put in all the work,” Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said on Monday, per ESPN. “For him to have to go through this is the worst part of it. But as a football team, we just have to continue to move forward.”

Burrow was coming off a 2024 season where he threw for 4,918 yards and 43 touchdowns. If Burrow returns in three months, the Bengals will be in either Week 15 or Week 16 of their schedule.

Bengals HC doesn’t rule out Joe Burrow returning this year

On Wednesday, Taylor didn’t rule out the possibility of Burrow returning this season.”At least the next four weeks,” Taylor said, referencing the time on the injured reserve list. “That’s the best I can give you.”

With Burrow out, the Bengals are expecting to go with backup Jake Browning as the starting quarterback. When Browning took over on Sunday, he threw for 241 yards, two touchdowns (also had one rushing TD), and three interceptions.

Burrow has emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the league over the last few years. In 2021, Burrow was named Comeback Player of the Year and led the Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance. He won the same award again last year after returning from a season-ending injury in 2023. Burrow has been selected to the Pro Bowl twice and led the NFL in passing yards (4,918) and passing touchdowns (43) in 2024.
