Joe Flacco injury update: Adam Schefter reveals the likelihood Bengals QB plays vs. Browns

Having a rotating door at the quarterback position is never a good way to make the playoffs. However, that’s exactly how it’s gone this year for the Cincinnati Bengals. Now, they may need to make a change again as Joe Flacco battles a shoulder issue.
On Thursday morning’s episode of Get Up, ESPN insider Adam Schefter shared the latest on Flacco. He wasn’t able to practice on Wednesday due to that shoulder issue, which has left it up in the air if he’s going to be able to play or not.
“Shoulder injury,” Schefter said. “Did not practice at all yesterday. The Bengals say it’s 50/50 whether he’ll be able to play on Sunday against the Chicago Bears, as they try to keep their season afloat after a crushing loss to the New York Jets.”
Flacco began this season with the Cleveland Browns as the starter there before getting benched for rookie Dillon Gabriel. He would shortly thereafter be traded to the Bengals. During that playing time, Flacco completed 60.8% of his passes for 1,599 yards and nine touchdowns to six interceptions.
The Bengals, ultimately, lost last weekend to the New York Jets. That was New York’s first win of the season and came on the back of a fourth quarter where Cincinnati gave up 23 points to ultimately lose 39-38. That dropped the Bengals to just 3-5 on the season. At the same time, that’s still good for second place in the AFC North, sitting behind the 4-3 Pittsburgh Steelers.

“If he can’t play, then they go back to Jake Browning,” Schefter said. “Everybody saw what that was like the time that Joe Burrow went down. Browning replaced him. They’re waiting to see whether Flacco can go. I don’t like the fact he didn’t practice yesterday.”
Star quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a turf toe injury in Week 2. That would require surgery, that is going to keep him out a minimum of three months. In the process, it effectively ended his season. Jake Browning was the backup on the roster, but he’s struggled this season, completing 64.5 percent of his passes for 757 yards and six touchdowns to eight interceptions. That play would also prompt the trade for Joe Flacco to try and stabilize the position.
This weekend, the Cincinnati Bengals are set to take on the Chicago Bears. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. EST.
