Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon is not expected to play this year as he deals with a foot injury he suffered during the offseason. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Mixon will likely remain on the reserve/non-football injury list through the year.

With Mixon out, the Texans will go with Nick Chubb and rookie Woody Marks. Through 10 games, Chubb has rushed for 419 yards and two touchdowns on 99 carries, and Marks has rushed for 348 yards and two touchdowns on 99 carries.

There haven’t been too many updates on Mixon since the Texans placed him on the reserve/non-football injury list to start the year. Texans general manager Nick Caserio recently appeared on Sports Radio 610 and said the team has no update on Mixon’s recovery.

“It’s not that I’m trying to be evasive, it’s just a very gray situation,” Caserio said, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “Joe’s worked at it. There were times where he’s made progress and other times when the progress is kind of stalled. Players in his situation are on the reserve list until they’re not. Joe’s doing everything he can. Obviously, we’re getting pretty late in the game here, so I don’t want to establish any sort of expectations.”

Joe Mixon made an impact with the Texans last year

Mixon joined the Texans last season after spending his first seven years with the Cincinnati Bengals. In 2024, the former Oklahoma star rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns, while also catching 36 passes for 309 yards and one TD. Mixon’s production last season led to him being named to the Pro Bowl for the second time in his career.

“Joe has been amazing,” Texans quarterback CJ Stroud said after the Texans beat the Dallas Cowboys last year, per the team’s official website. “He’s been somebody who came in and taught guys how to win more. We won some games last year, but he taught guys what it takes to get to that goal. We’re not there yet, but we’re taking strides. Every team goes through adversity throughout the year.”
