Joe Mixon has called out an NFL insider for his report on the Houston Texans running back not expecting to play for the rest of the season. On X/Twitter, Mixon sent a message to Ian Rapoport, who was the first to report that Mixon will likely not play this year because of his foot injury.

“Now, I get everyone’s looking for splash news & clickbait… but I’m just curious, Ian how do you know more about me than me?” Joe Mixon wrote. The Texans placed Mixon on the reserve/non-football injury list in late August. He was eligible to start practicing after the fourth game of the season, but there have been little to no updates about the two-time Pro Bowl running back all year.

ESPN also reported that Mixon would not return this year. He missed all of the Texans’ offseason workouts and training camp with the foot injury, and he also didn’t participate during OTAs and minicamp. With Mixon out of action, Nick Chubb and rookie Woody Marks have been sharing the work at running back.

Texans GM shares update on Joe Mixon

Texans general manager Nick Caserio recently appeared on Sports Radio 610 and said the team has no update on Mixon’s recovery.“It’s not that I’m trying to be evasive, it’s just a very gray situation,” Caserio said, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “Joe’s worked at it. There were times where he’s made progress and other times when the progress is kind of stalled. Players in his situation are on the reserve list until they’re not. Joe’s doing everything he can. Obviously, we’re getting pretty late in the game here, so I don’t want to establish any sort of expectations.”

Mixon entered the NFL in 2017 when the Cincinnati Bengals selected him in the second round of the NFL Draft. In his seven seasons with the Bengals, Mixon tallied 6,412 rushing yards, 49 rushing touchdowns, 2,139 receiving yards, and 13 receiving touchdowns.

The Bengals traded Mixon to the Texans in March 2024, and he signed a three-year contract with Houston after the trade. In 2024, Mixon recorded 1,325 yards from scrimmage and 12 total touchdowns.
