Joey Chestnut will attempt new popcorn eating world record on Memorial Day

World champion eater Joey Chestnut will attempt to break his own popcorn eating record on Memorial Day. Known for his hot dog world record, Chestnut will try to take down another record with a completely different food.
What’s funny is, Chesnut already did it. Now, he’ll try to eat more popcorn than he ever has before!
Speaking with Action Network, Chestnut broke down what it would take to break his own record. He’ll have eight minutes to eat more than 696 ounces of popcorn to set a new record.
“This is actually a record I set a few couple years ago,” Chesnut said. “And, dude, this is great because Rural King are known for their popcorn. It’s awesome popcorn, and they give it out for free! But it’s also delicious. And they invited me to break the record on Memorial Day, and it’s going down, 1PM.”
How does he do it? Fans always saw the way Chestnut consumed beef and other foods. Popcorn is light and Chestnut trains like any athlete would. There are different methods.

“It’s definitely hard to find the right rhythm,” Chestnut said. “I’ll be quick with drinking. I’m gonna use the water liberally. It should help. Water almost makes the popcorn vanish a bit quicker. I’ll pour it in my hand and try to get it in and get it down. There’s gonna be a judge there. If I make a mess, they’ll have deductions, but usually, I’m pretty clean. It’s gonna be buttery! It might be a sunny day in Indiana, so I’m gonna be glistening!”
But perhaps the biggest tidbit is Chestnut’s eventual return to eating hot dogs. However, he has not confirmed whether or not he’ll compete at the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island. Chesnut did not take part in the eating contest since he was banned due to his affiliation with Impossible Foods.
“No matter what, I’ll be eating hot dogs on July 4th somewhere,” Chesnut said. “I love competition. I love pushing myself, and I feel like I’ve already started training to eat hot dogs. My body’s working really well, and I’m gonna be able to push really, really hard on Memorial Day.”
Chestnut will attempt to surpass his previous record of 696 ounces of popcorn in eight minutes at 1 PM on Memorial Day at Rural King, South Terre Haute in Indiana. He could break his own popcorn record and maybe his own hot dog record again as well. At the Nathan’s competition, Chestnut holds the record of 76 hot dogs. But, in a matchup against famed Japanese eater, and former rival, Takeru Kobayashi, Chesnut ate 83 hot dogs compared to Kobayashi’s 66 back in September.
