Joey Logano reveals he was angry rewatching controversial 2024 Richmond finish

Unfortunately for Joey Logano, rewatching the final lap of last year’s Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway didn’t change the outcome. Logano got dumped by Austin Dillon, and it cost him the win.

“I did… it made me mad again. The result didn’t change, unfortunately,” Logano told Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports on Friday.

Logano is back at the scene of the crime — if you will — for Saturday’s race at Richmond. Last year, he had this race won if not for Dillon’s decision-making on the last lap of overtime. Dillon first wrecked Logano to take the race lead, and then intentionally right-rear hooked Denny Hamlin. Logano pulled no punches about how he felt about Dillon.

“No, when you get that far ahead, three four car lengths ahead in three. I didn’t back up the entry, I was like, ‘I’ll just wrap the bottom here, I’m good.’ And he just drives in so hard. Obviously, he didn’t make the turn because he hit me and the 11 was going to win the race,” Logano said after the race.

“So, he had no intention to race. I beat him fair and square on the restart and he just pulled a chickenshit move. He’s a piece of crap, he sucks. He’s sucked his whole career, and now he’s going to be in the playoffs and good for him, I guess.”

Joey Logano chasing ‘sweet redemption’ at Richmond

One year has since passed. At some point, you have to move on, and it appears Logano has.

“Obviously, I have to rewatch things and prepare, but it’s a year ago,” Logano told Pockrass. “Gotta move forward at some point. Just gotta go get sweet redemption; win the race that we had won.”

Winning Saturday’s race would mean a lot to Logano and give him some momentum going into the playoffs. Logano will have his work cut out for him, starting from the rear after hitting the wall in Turn 4 during Friday’s practice session.
