The beef between Joey Logano and Chipper Jones is not over — not by a long shot. Jones, the Atlanta Braves legend and Baseball Hall of Famer, criticized Logano for his radio tirade directed at Team Penske teammate Austin Cindric during Sunday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Logano responded Tuesday during an appearance on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, saying he didn’t care about Jones’ criticism. The three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion followed up with more while speaking with the media at North Wilkesboro Speedway: “All I can think is he’s trying to be relevant still or something like that.”

“I’m surprised that a professional athlete would act in that manner because he’s been through it,” Logano said, via Dustin Long of NBC Sports. “I am very careful to form an opinion on an athlete by their emotions or the way they play the game because I know from being in that position, when there’s that much on the line in a competitive environment, you act a certain way because you’re out there to win. And then you got to be able to shut that off.

“I would have assumed him being the athlete he is and was, that he would understand that and not mouth off on social media like somebody that’s never played the sport before. It’s surprising to me. All I can think is he’s trying to be relevant still or something like that.”

Coming to the end of Stage 2, multiple drivers and teams were vying for the stage win. Logano lost out to Bubba Wallace. It all happened after Cindric had to check up while trying to push Logano, who wasn’t happy afterwards: “Way to go Austin, way to go, you dumb fu*k! Way to fu*king go. What a stupid sh*t. You just gave it to him. Gave a Toyota a stage win. Nice job. Way to go. What a dumbass. Put that in the book again.”

That prompted a post from Jones on social media. Jones congratulated Cindric on his win and took a shot at Logano.

Logano is an experienced, Championship-winning driver. Jones is one of the greatest third basemen of all-time. Logano believes Jones should stay in his lane.

“Chipper Jones, he seems like a cool dude, he’s done a lot, right?” Logano said on SiriusXM. “He’s a pretty popular, good baseball player, but he’s not a race car driver, and I know he wasn’t in the room with us when we set in place the way things are supposed to go. You would think somebody that has been in professional sports and has been in meetings like that would probably take a step back and say, ‘Man, there’s probably more to the story here than what there is.’ I’m surprised it went that way. Maybe he was just bored. I don’t know what his situation is. I tell you I don’t care.”
