Jonathon Brooks injury update: Dave Canales confirms Panthers RB suffered torn ACL

Carolina Panthers rookie running back Jonathon Brooks has suffered another torn ACL in his right leg, Panthers head coach Dave Canales told reporters on Monday.
Brooks went down with a non-contact injury during Sunday’s game against the Eagles. This is the second torn ACL for Brooks in 13 months. He also suffered a torn ACL last November when playing for Texas.
“He’s going to be out for the season,” Dave Canales said of Jonathon Brooks. “He’s going to have surgery to repair that at some point. We’re working on all that. But my heart is with him.
“I mean just the amount of hard work that he put in to get back to this place, to get him to play. So he’s heartbroken. I’m heartbroken. The whole group is just feeling for him. So we’ll be here every step of the way for him.”
Jonathon Brooks took a handoff and cut to his left before falling down untouched on Sunday. He tried to limp off the field but fell back down prior to reaching the sideline. The Panthers immediately announced Brooks as doubtful to return.

Brooks, Carolina’s second round selection out of Texas, just made his NFL debut in Week 12, after spending a year recovering from a torn ACL in his right knee during his final season with the Longhorns.
Canales spoke about what he saw from Brooks after his first two games where he was active.
“I thought it was a great step, from the first week to the second in terms of his confidence,” head coach Dave Canales said. “Saw him break a couple of tackles, finishing runs aggressively, some of those things. So, I was really pleased with the way he just took another step.
“And that’s all we expect—is just weekly improvement, the daily improvement, just dialing yourself into the protection plan, the runs, how we’re trying to press the runs and those things like that. And so, another great step for Jonathon.”
