Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda reported this week that LSU wideout Malik Nabers is a “high-maintenance prospect” with “off-the-field questions” which could potentially impact his NFL Draft stock.

“The LSU junior is known as a high-maintenance prospect who may struggle in a big city,” Pauline wrote. “There are big off-the-field questions Nabers has had to answer to during the draft process, and teams must feel comfortable with those answers if they’re going to invest an early draft pick and millions of dollars in his services.

Bleacher Report‘s Jordan Schultz not only called out Pauline’s report for being “flat-out wrong,” but proclaimed that Nabers “deserves better.”

“There is so much wrong with this “report,” I don’t even know where to start,” Schultz wrote on X. “To attack a young person’s character with anonymous quotes less than three weeks before the NFL Draft is flat-out wrong. Malik Nabers deserves better. This stuff happens every year during draft season, and largely, most of it is false and is being spread to get a player to drop. Stop with this.”

Nabers, 20, was arrested in New Orleans in February 2023 on a count of carrying an illegal weapon. The arrest occurred on Bourbon Street when officers on foot patrol noticed an “L-shaped object” in his front pants pocket. Police asked Nabers if he had a permit. When he said that he didn’t, they handcuffed him and took him to jail. The misdemeanor charge was later dropped.

Adam Schefter: NFL personnel are viewing Malik Nabers as the top NFL Draft wideout

To this point, it doesn’t appear any off-the-field concerns have hurt his draft stock. In fact, it’s the opposite. Some in the NFL believe Nabers is the No. 1 receiver prospect ahead of Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr.

“There are some NFL personnel men who believe Malik Nabers is this draft class’ top wideout,” Adam Schefter of ESPN tweeted during LSU’s Pro Day last month.

Nabers, who will turn 21 before the 2024 NFL season begins, spent three seasons at LSU. He hauled in 189 receptions for 3,003 yards and 21 touchdowns. Nabers became LSU’s all-time receiving leader in 2023 after reeling in 89 receptions for 1,569 yards and 14 scores. He was named a unanimous All-American and first-team All-SEC for his efforts.
