Josh Allen still can’t quite believe he’s on the cover of a video game he grew up playing. The Buffalo Bills quarterback and NFL superstar called the experience of being named the cover athlete for Madden 24 “surreal.”

Allen, one of the top quarterbacks and most popular players in the NFL, recently joined the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast and was asked about being named to the video game cover. He still seemed to be a bit stunned by his selection.

“Yeah, it’s weird. As a kid, right, you play this game — it’s how I learned the game of football. All the rules … it’s just kinda full circle. I learned (the game) playing Madden and now I’m on the cover,” Allen said. “And some kid will eventually say, ‘I learned the game playing Madden, it was the cover of when Josh Allen was on the cover.’ Mine was 2003 Marshall Faulk. It’s surreal.”

Allen then described how the process worked and how he was asked to be the cover athlete for Madden 24.

“They called my agent and said, ‘Hey, we want to sit down with Josh.’ We got on and they had this whole video about you’re the guy that we want,” he said.

During the meeting, Allen was told he was one of the most popular players in the video game and numerous statistics about his play within the video game were provided. After hearing all of that, he was sold.

So, now, Allen serves as the face of a video game that taught him the game of football. It’s a really cool moment for the quarterback.

Is Josh Allen worried about the “Madden curse?”

Being on the cover of Madden 24 might sound awesome, but there’s also some bad vibes that come with it. In years past, the athletes that landed on the cover of the video game suffered through some weird moments.

Injuries, poor performances and more have plagued Madden cover athletes in previous seasons. But Allen isn’t concerned about any of that. He believes Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady put that stuff to rest in previous years.

“No (the curse) it was done and over with,” Allen said on the podcast. “Pat and Tom broke that a few years ago. I’m not supposed to be in the league, I’m not supposed to be here.”

Let’s hope Allen didn’t just jinx himself by talking about the curse in that way.
