Josh Jacobs exited more than once in the win on Sunday for Green Bay with a knee injury. Now, after further testing to start this week, more is known on his status moving forward for the Packers.

Per Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Jacobs will not need surgery on that left knee, with him now being day-to-day for Green Bay. That’s great news in the long term for the Packers, but he is at least uncertain to play this upcoming weekend in a key divisional matchup this upcoming weekend against the Minnesota Vikings.

“#Packers standout RB Josh Jacobs’ knee is structurally sound and no surgery is needed, per me and @TomPelissero,” Rapoport tweeted out this morning. “He’s considered day-to-day, but could miss the game against the #Vikings.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter has also since reported much of the same. He posted similar reporting himself, and has since spoken further on that news during an appearance this afternoon on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’.

“They did tests today. It was structurally sound, so that’s encouraging. They’re going to consider him week-to-week. It’ll be challenging to have him play this week against the Vikings. But, again, they’re not ready to rule him out just yet. But, look, this is a tough guy, and he’s usually out there. We’ll see if he’s going to be able to make it out there this week. I think I’d be a little bit surprised – Emanuel Wilson has played well, long season ahead. But, he’ll have a chance. They’re not ready to rule him out just yet,” said Schefter. “We’ll see how the week evolves. The good news for the Packers is not long-term, no surgery needed and we’ll see how soon he can make it back.

Reporting last night suggested early on that this wouldn’t end up being a significant knee injury for Jacobs. Those results of his testing this morning have seemingly since confirmed that for the Packers’ leading rusher.

Jacobs was sidelined in the first half, taking a hit on a tackle and falling out of bounds, of what finished as a 27-20 win for Green Bay over the New York Giants at MetLife. He finished the game with seven carries for 40 yards, with Emanuel Wilson coming in to take his place and posting 11 carries for 40 yards and a touchdown.

On the season, Jacobs has again been one of the leading rushers in the NFL. He has 169 carries this fall for 648 yards, averaging 64.8 per game and 3.8 an attempt, and 11 touchdowns for the Packers, while also catching 28 passes as well for 237 yards.

With seven games left, Jacobs sounds as though he’ll be back available at some point for this back stretch of the season, which is big for the Packers (6-3) as they try to position themselves, at a game back from first in the NFC North, for the NFL Playoffs. But, as for this upcoming week’s game against the Vikings at Lambeau Field, Green Bay could still be without him in the short term.
