Josh Jacobs injury update: Matt LaFleur shares latest on Packers RB, status vs. Vikings

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur shared an update on running back Josh Jacobs, who suffered a knee injury this past weekend. LaFleur told reporters that Jacobs will not practice on Wednesday (per Rob Demovsky of ESPN). However, the Packers are not going to rule Jacobs out yet, as LaFleur said he’s not ready to make that move.
With Josh Jacobs not being ruled out, it could mean he has an outside chance of playing against the Minnesota Vikings this weekend. Jacobs suffered the injury after recording 40 rushing yards on seven carries in the game against the New York Giants.
“It’s just more or less trying to get the swelling down,” LaFleur said of Jacobs’ knee on Monday, per Mike Spofford of Packers.com. “Unfortunately, that’s a pretty hard surface over there, and sometimes (that’s) the byproduct of that.”
Will Josh Jacobs play against the Vikings?
ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported on The Pat McAfee Show that it would be tough for Jacobs to play this week. “They did tests today. It was structurally sound, so that’s encouraging. They’re going to consider him week-to-week,” Schefter said on Monday. “It’ll be challenging to have him play this week against the Vikings. But, again, they’re not ready to rule him out just yet. But, look, this is a tough guy, and he’s usually out there. We’ll see if he’s going to be able to make it out there this week.

Jacobs has had a solid 2025 season, rushing for 648 yards and 11 touchdowns on 169 carries in 10 games. He’s in his second year with the Packers, and his first season with the team was a huge success, rushing for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns.
If the Packers want to make a deep run in the playoffs, they will need Jacobs to be as healthy as possible during the second half of the year. Green Bay has reached the playoffs the last two seasons but have not played in a conference title game since the 2020 season. The Packers haven’t won a Super Bowl since the 2010 season, which is also the last year they have reached the championship game.
