Josh Simmons health update: Kansas City Chiefs OL's status surprisingly changed prior to Monday Night Football

The Kansas City Chiefs announced that offensive lineman Josh Simmons has an illness ahead of the Monday Night Football game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. His status for the game is questionable.

Josh Simmons was not on the Chiefs’ injury report entering the Week 5 matchup. The former Ohio State star is listed as the starting left tackle and has appeared in the Chiefs’ first four games of the season. Kansas City selected Simmons in the first round (No. 32 overall) in this year’s draft.

Before the start of the 2025 season, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said Simmons could be an elite left tackle in the NFL. “He’s a ‘dawg’ at the end of the day,” Mahomes said on Up and Adams. “I mean, he’s obviously working through being an NFL pro and being a veteran, but when it comes to just pass blocking and run blocking, he can get the job done. That’s where it all starts off, so he’s getting tested out here (against) Spags and the defensive line that we have. But I think, I don’t know if there’s one moment, I think it’s just you hear the defensive guys talk about him, and they all are saying the right things when you want a guy that’s going to go out there and contribute.

“And so, the sky’s the limit. I mean, he has a chance to be one of the best there is at that left tackle position, but he’s got to go out there and prove that in the regular season.”

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also praised Simmons before the season. “You can see his athletic ability,” Reid said in June, per ESPN. “You can see his want-to. He’s got a great attitude. He’s approached everything the right way, plus a little bit extra. You could tell if you just want to look at his rehab, you can see that he’s got a mindset that, ‘I’m going to get in there.'”

Josh Simmons was part of the Ohio State team that won the national championship last year. He missed most of last season due to a knee injury.
