Katie Ledecky reveals plans for 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles

Fresh off accomplishing a feat that no woman in Olympics history had ever done, swimmer Katie Ledecky is entertaining ideas of swimming in Los Angeles in 2028.

But she also knows doing so will not be an easy task. Ledecky will be 31 when the Olympic Games come to Los Angeles.

According to The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach, she’ll give it a go.

“I’d love to, but it’s not easy,” Ledecky said. “I’ll take it year by year and give it everything I’ve got for as long as I have left in me.”

If Katie Ledecky still has it in four years she’ll have a chance to further add to her already record Olympic tally. She’s the most decorated American woman in Olympics history, with 14 medals currently.

Ledecky took the gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle on Saturday, a race that might as well have her name stamped next to it at this point. Ledecky has won gold in the event in each of the last four Olympics, dating back to her medal debut in London in 2012 at 15 years old.

She did it with ease, too, outlasting Australian rival Ariarne Titmus to capture the gold.

It was her second gold medal of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Ledecky also captured the gold medal in the 1500-meter freestyle.

Katie Ledecky had already captured two other medals at this year’s Olympics in Paris, too. She earned a silver medal in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay. She also took a bronze medal in the 400-meter freestyle.

“I’m just so honored to represent our country and those women that have set the standard for so many years have inspired me,” Ledecky said. “They inspired me when I first started swimming so thank you to them, thank you to everyone that has supported me all these years.”
