According to DallasCowboys.com’s Tommy Yarrish, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver KaVontae Turpin is in danger of missing Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. Turpin suffered a foot injury against the Green Bay Packers. While the exact moment it took place is not known, the Cowboys appear to be preparing to be without Turpin.

“Cowboys wide receiver and All-Pro kick returner KaVontae Turpin could miss Sunday’s game against the Jets with a foot injury suffered in Dallas’ Week 4 tie against the Green Bay Packers,” Yarrish said. “During Wednesday’s media viewing period in practice, Turpin was not present. As it stands, the Cowboys do not believe Turpin’s injury will land him on injured reserve, which would sideline him for four games.”

There is a lot more to Turpin’s game than just playing receiver. Dallas trusts him to be the team’s kick returner and for good reason. Turpin earned All-Pro honors last season and is off to a great start in 2025. In four games, 16 returns have resulted in 405 yards.

Carving out a bigger role in the offense turned into a top offseason goal as well. CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens are the team’s clear top two guys but a No. 3 was needed. When healthy, Turpin is the guy, going for 159 yards and a touchdown on 11 receptions.

However, Lamb being out brought even more questions to the Cowboys’ wide receiver. Turpin also dealing with an injury only makes matters worse for head coach Brian Schottenheimer. More offensive firepower is needed heading into the Jets matchup.

Jalen Tolbert could wind up being a candidate for more playing time. He made a nice catch on the sideline against Green Bay in a critical moment. Ryan Flournoy received playing time on Sunday night too. Dallas saw Jonathan Mingo, somebody they traded for a year ago, back on the practice field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Cowboys are attempting to bounce back after, weirdly, tying vs. the Packers. Their overall record sits at 1-2-1, an unusual set to see four games into a regular season. Getting back in the win column must be the goal moving forward in a two-game stretch many would consider to be on the easier side.

Unfortunately, Turpin might not be out there at MetLife Stadium. Somebody else now gets an opportunity to return kicks. New NFL rules make the kicks more than returnable, possibly producing special teams magic for the Cowboys.
