Kevin Harvick reveals if NASCAR championship races lived up to the hype

Kevin Harvick had high hopes for NASCAR’s championship weekend, with all three of their major series crowning a victor for their season-long battle at Phoenix Raceway.
First, Ty Majeski was able to get the job done on Friday in the Truck Series, while Justin Allgaier followed it up with a win in the Xfinity Series on Saturday, sending Dale Earnhardt Jr. into a frenzy. Then, the main event — the Cup Series, crowned Joey Logano for a third time, as he outlasted Ryan Blaney in the closing laps to win the 2024 title.
Afterwards, Harvick tried to see the forest through the trees. He praised the Truck Series and Xfinity Series races, and while he doesn’t know if the Cup Series race as a whole lived up to the hype, he did credit the closing laps for providing some intense drama, as Ryan Blaney tried to chase down Logano.
“Well, when you when you look at the other the other two, the Xfinity and the Truck Series races, they were fantastic. I think that, the way that the Cup race ended, with all the drama of the way that the caution came out and the No. 24 cycling into the front of the pack, and Joey getting that tremendous restart at the end of the race, (that) was really what put him in position to to win the race,” Harvick stated, via the latest episode of Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.

“So, I think Blaney had the fastest car. I think we all thought that Blaney was going to have the fastest car, and we all thought that Logano was not going to have the fastest car, and he executed better and wound up being the champ.”
Alas, Blaney might’ve had the fastest car, but it was Logano who elevated and showed why he’s a legendary wheelman, doing just enough to hold off his teammate and get the victory. Many have a problem with NASCAR’s current playoff format, but it’s evident Logano has cracked the code when it comes to besting his competitors at it.
Moving forward, it’ll be fascinating to see if NASCAR makes some changes, as there’s been an outcry from fans and analysts alike following this past weekend. Regardless, Kevin Harvick had a good time with it, and it’s all in the history books now.
