Kevin Harvick speculates on next steps for JGR after Denny Hamlin-Ty Gibbs incident

Kevin Harvick did not hold back when discussing the incident between Denny Hamlin and Ty Gibbs at New Hampshire. On Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour, Harvick predicted what the next steps would be for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) after the two teammates clashed on the track.
“The damage is already done,” Kevin Harvick said. “I think the drivers and the management team have to sit down, and you have to have a conversation about it. I’ve been in them. You don’t have a choice but to be in the middle of them.
“I think it’s always interesting to hear the sound bites afterwards. [Chris] Gabehart stood there for a long time and talked very graciously to the media. Joe Gibbs spoke to the media. The drivers did exactly what they had to do, from not saying more than they needed to say, because when you get in those moments, you better be really careful how you choose your words. It could absolutely blow the organization up.”

On the Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin said he did not intentionally try to spin Gibbs but was looking to move Gibbs out of the lane he wanted. “Well, it was twofold because I was pretty much there into Turn 1, and then he moved down to the middle lane to cut the nose off to make me get really (tight),” Hamlin said. “If you cut someone’s nose, especially if they’re running really close to you, it’ll make their car kind of lift up and take off. So I think he was just trying to cross my nose to make me lose air just to further aero-block me. And I was so close to him that I’m like, ‘Hell no. You’re not gonna do that.’ So yeah, I tried to shove him up to the next lane to get my position, and I unfortunately spun him out.”
Hamlin earned a P12 finish at New Hampshire and is in fifth place in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoff standings. Gibbs is still looking for his first victory as a Cup Series driver.
