Browns coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that D’Onta Foreman is back with the team, a day after he suffered a scary head injury. But he isn’t sure whether the running back will be placed in concussion protocol.

The Browns signed Foreman, the former Texas Longhorn, in free agency. Running back already was an issue. Cleveland added Foreman to be its short-yardage and goal-line back. Foreman suffered a head injury Thursday during practice. And athletic trainers had to immobilize his head/neck and place him in an ambulance. Then he needed to be airlifted to a hospital.

Stefanski said Foreman was feeling better.

“You know, obviously, (the injury was) very, very scary.,” the Browns coach said. “And credit to our medical staff, you’re always being cautious there. And they followed protocols and made sure that he got great treatment right there. Saw him yesterday when he got back, was tired, so he’s getting plenty of rest, but scary. And thank God he’s OK.”

The Browns left Cleveland for a nine-day camp at The Greenbrier, a resort located in White Sulphur Springs, WV, in the Allegheny Mountains. Foreman was air lifted to a hospital in Roanoke, Va., for testing. The scans and X-rays were negative. And Foreman had movement in all his extremities before he left the football field.

Stefanski said he’s not sure if Browns will sign another RB

Although Stefanski said Foreman had rejoined the team, the running back wasn’t on the practice field, Friday, according to reporters on the scene. The coach wasn’t sure if the Browns would sign another running back to replace Foreman.

Cleveland added Foreman to replace Kareem Hunt, who still is a free agent. The Browns already have a gap on the depth chart due to the status of Nick Chubb, who suffered a serious knee injury last September. Chubb still has not been cleared for team drills, but coaches are hoping he’ll be ready to play next month.

Foreman is a quality back. He won the Doak Walker Award his final season at Texas in 2016. The Texans originally selected Foreman in the third round (89th pick) of the 2017 NFL Draft. However, Foreman has moved around in his career. The Browns are his eighth team. He’s played in 50 games, with 18 starts. And he’s carried the ball 535 times for 2,282 career yards. He averaged 4.2 yards a carry, which is good for a short-yardage specialist.

After Foreman rejoined the team, he shared a message on Instagram thanking Browns fans for all the prayers and support.

“I wanna say THANK YOU ALL from the bottom of my heart to everyone who reached out to me and or prayed for me. … I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared/nervous earlier, but GOD was with me and those prayers.”
