Klay Thompson fires ceremonial first pitch strike at Texas Rangers game
Monday at Globe Life Field is Dallas Mavericks night. While the Texas Rangers are facing off against the Athletics, another Dallas team is getting some love inside the building. This brings Klay Thompson to the ballpark, getting into the pregame festivities.
Thompson was the first person to take the mound, getting to throw the ceremonial first pitch. Surprisingly, Thompson stepped on the rubber and found some success. A strike fired just on the outside corner to third base coach Tony Beasley.
What turned out to be a hilarious moment was Thompson’s choice of hardware. The Mavericks star had a batting helmet on while throwing the pitch. A custom Rangers jersey with his last name was provided as well.
You can check out the full moment from Thompson here. Folks inside Globe Life Field were quite a fan of Thompson’s efforts.
Turns out, Thompson was quite confident of his first pitch and rightfully so. He even called out former president George W. Bush for his previous effort, somebody who has played quite a role in the history of the Texas Rangers.
“I think it was the best,” Thompson later said of his first pitch on Rangers Sports Network. “I saw George W. (Bush) on the wall. I don’t think he brought the heat like that, though.”

Maybe Thompson can provide the Rangers with a little spark. At exactly 100 games into the season, they sit with 50 wins and 50 losses. And as the trade deadline looms, a few more victories are going to be required before July 31. If there is anybody currently on the Mavericks’ roster who knows how to win, it’s Thompson.
The goal with Dallas is to win an NBA Championship, something Nico Harrison has made quite clear in recent months. Thompson will certainly be a massive factor in the equation entering his second season with the team. Last year, Thompson averaged 14.0 points while shooting 41.2% from the field and 39.1% from three-point range.
For now, Thompson is enjoying all facets of the offseason. Recent headlines were made over his new relationship. Thompson is dating Megan Thee Stallion as they recently made things official on social media. Initially just internet rumors, Thompson posted some photos on Instagram to the surprise of many out there.
Between a new girlfriend and confidently throwing a strike at a Rangers game, not many people are living better at the moment than Klay Thompson. Everyone in Dallas is hoping the momentum carries over into the 2025-2026 season for the Mavericks.
