Kyle Busch has concerning stat ahead of Kansas Cup Series race

Every week, NASCAR fans wonder if Kyle Busch is going to break through and get back to his winning ways after two winless years. If you are hoping to see that happen this weekend at Kansas, then you might be disappointed. Busch has one concerning stat heading into this week’s race.
Last week at Texas, it looked like Busch had figured something out. He had at least put himself in a position to have a strong finish on the day and earn some points. A nice change of momentum. That was until he spun out all by himself.
In the last seven races on 1.5-mile tracks (Homestead-Miami, Kansas, Las Vegas, and Texas), Busch has failed to finish in the Top 10. He has gone 11 races in a row on these tracks without a top five finish.
The last Top 10 on a 1.5-mile track for Kyle Busch did come at Kansas in the Spring 2024 race. So, there is a little optimism. But his fall performance, P19, was concerning. There is just an overall lack of speed for Busch and Richard Childress Racing at these tracks.
If the goal this week is to just have the best finish possible, Busch has to approach the race the right way. He has gotten in his own way as much as the lack of speed has gotten in his way in the last two years.
Busch has to focus on avoiding mistakes on pit road, avoiding mistakes on restarts, and not stepping over the line in this Next Gen car. If he can have a mistake-free afternoon at Kansas, I think he likely finds himself in the Top 10 without much fuss.

Kyle Busch has to make a decision
Right now, Busch is on the outside looking in as far as the NASCAR Playoffs are concerned. He is already on the bubble, and not the good side of it, either.
Busch is 16th in points, and with Josh Berry having a win this year, Busch is the first driver out of the postseason at the moment. That is not where the two-time champion wants to be this early into the year. Busch and his team have a decision to make at this point.
Busch and his team have to decide if they are going to go points hunting or if they are a win-at-all-costs team. Because that is the only way that this group is going to race for a championship in 2025. Deciding what kind of strategy you are going to take for the next 15 regular-season races is very important.
There is no reason for Busch to be winless for this long. RCR has to put him in positions to win and give him the equipment he needs to be competitive. But Busch has to know his limits in the car and make sure he’s making it to the end of these races. The mistakes have added up already this year, he can’t afford many more.
