Kyle Busch weighs in on impressive recovery to earn P5 after issues at Chicago Street Race

Kyle Busch shared his reaction to earning a P5 finish at the Chicago Street Race on Sunday. On X/Twitter, Busch shared a few photos of himself at the track. The post also included Busch praising his team for the strong finish.
“Good rebound after going around early,” Busch wrote. “Was ripping that last run (and) got all the way up to 5th. Thx to the boyz for another solid road course piece.”
As Kyle Busch mentioned, he spun early in the race, but he bounced back and finished fifth. That was Busch’s best finish this season since earning a P5 finish at COTA in March. After the Chicago race, Busch is 59 points below the playoff cut line with seven races remaining in the regular season.

“Our day started out pretty good. We got a good jump on the initial start there and was able to roll forward and get to third,” Busch told reporters after Chicaco Race, per Dustin Long of NBC Sports. “We tried to go long on that first set of tires, and with those couple of cautions, it didn’t fall into our favor.

“That put us on old tires, and I spun out getting into (turn) seven. We just didn’t have any left-rear grip. That’s something we’ve struggled with on this car, and it just bit me there. The No. 8 Slurpee Chevrolet team rallied, and we were able to rebound. We pitted a couple of times there at the end and had some fresh tires late for some of the melee that was going on in front of us and made up some spots. Our Chevrolet was definitely a top-two or three car, but it’s good to come home with a top-five finish.”
It’s been a challenging couple of seasons for Kyle Busch has won 63 races in his NASCAR Cup Series career. The 40-year-old hasn’t won a race since June of 2023 and missed the playoffs in 2024. Busch is in his third season with Richard Childress Racing after being part of Joe Gibbs Racing from 2008 to 2022.
