Wanna see something cool and maybe a little scary? How about being on-board with Kyle Larson as he rips laps in the fog at Ventura? The USAC Midget National Series is in California for the final stretch of the schedule. The Turkey Night Grand Prix has attracted a number of talented racers.

Kyle Larson leads a trio of talented NASCAR drivers hoping to make the feature race. Larson is joined by Corey Day and Ty Gibbs. Day, Larsonโ€™s Hendrick Motorsports teammate, is a talented young driver who won the Turkey Night Grand Prix last year. Gibbs is still figuring out this whole dirt racing thing.

You can catch the action tonight on FloRacing. This event is always a lot of fun, and that goes for practice, qualifying, heat races, and the feature. All of it. Ventura Speedway is such a cool venue. Larson and others were ripping laps with dirt flying all over and a heavy fog over the track.

Now imagine trying to see through that fog and moisture with a cage in front of your eyes. Sprint car racing is such a thrilling discipline of motorsports. The speeds are unreal, the wrecks are dramatic and wild, and the drivers are the most aggressive in the world. Thereโ€™s nothing like a big slider to make you get off your feet or make you gasp with excitement.

Corey Day was quick on Friday night. He was laying down laps in practice that consistently topped the board in Ventura. I wouldnโ€™t be shocked to see him win a second Turkey Night Grand Prix in a row. Christopher Bell was the last driver to accomplish that feat in 2017 and 2018.

Ty Gibbs not far off Kyle Larson in practice

Now, who knows what Kyle Larson had going on during practice and what his goals were, but it is very interesting to see that Ty Gibbs was just behind Larson in the session. Larson was 20th overall in practice at Ventura, Gibbs was 21st. 12.552 for Larson against Gibbsโ€™ 12.570.

Gibbs is sort of a dirt racer by background. He was all-in on dirt bikes when he was growing up. It was during a time when JGR and his dad, Coy Gibbs, dabbled in Motocross and Supercross. Things changed, and Gibbs eventually found himself in a stock car.

Keeping pace with Kyle Larson is impressive. Finishing 21st among those who made laps in practice is also impressive. There are roughly 50 entries for the feature race this weekend. Gibbs might find himself in the feature and racing for some money before the weekend is over.

If I had to pick a driver right now, Iโ€™d take Corey Day to win his second Turkey Night Grand Prix in a row. But you can never count out Kyle Larson on the dirt. No matter what the practice results say.
