Kyle Larson reveals Rick Hendrick is always on TikTok

Rick Hendrick is very online. Don’t believe it? Take it from Kyle Larson, Hendrick’s two-time NASCAR Cup Series championship winning driver.

According to Larson, Hendrick is a frequent visitor of the TikTok app. What does the 76-year-old Hendrick do on TikTok? Well, you might find this surprising, but he watches racing videos. Not NASCAR, no, but videos of sprint cars crashing. Sometimes, he sends videos to Larson of his past incidents inside a sprint car.

“Rick has this thing. So, he’s on TikTok all the time,” Larson said on The Driver Project podcast. “He’ll send me random — the only time he texts me is he’ll send me TikToks of me crashing sprint cars. … All these TikToks of people crashing, me crashing. … But yeah, so he loves to send TikToks of me crashing from like years before and he’s like, ‘Are you OK?’ I’m like, ‘Rick, that was from like six years ago.'”

Larson, in addition to his NASCAR duties, competes often in dirt races. He’s a co-owner of the High Limit Racing Series and a three-time Chili Bowl Nationals winner.

Hendrick allows his star driver to compete across the country but clearly, he worries about Larson’s safety. Alex Bowman, another Hendrick Motorsports driver, notably retired from dirt track racing in 2023 after suffering a fractured vertebra in a sprint car crash.

Larson doesn’t appear close to giving up his dirt racing career. The same can be said about his NASCAR career, as he’s in his prime and just captured his second championship. Larson, despite not leading a single lap in the Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway, was crowned champion as the highest finisher among Championship 4 drivers.

“Sure, yeah, we stole it, but our team did a really good job,” Larson said last month to Lee Spencer of FloRacing. “I think that’s what I’m most proud of. Just how quickly we kind of turned our race around, obviously, due to some good fortune with cautions and the correct pit calls and strategy. Which weren’t clear decisions, either, and everybody kind of executed when they needed to.

“So, yeah, we didn’t dominate the race by any means, not even leading a lap, but I feel like our team did the best job, and we are deserving champions in that respect. And two, when you look at it, we did have a great season with laps led and consistent finishes and top-fives and top-10s. We were in the top two in basically every category. So, it was a great year and I’m proud of that.”
