Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has a timetable of 4-8 weeks to return from a foot injury, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Schefter also reported that Jacoby Brissett will remain the starter for this Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Murray reportedly consulted with multiple doctors to determine this timeline. With that in mind, the team will likely have Brissett as the start at least for the next few games, as a Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams would be the absolute earliest Murray could return.

Murray has not played since Week 5, when he suffered the injury in a contest against the Tennessee Titans. Prior to his injury, the QB had thrown for 962 yards and six touchdowns to three interception this season while also rushing for 173 yards and a score.

Brissett has started the past three games for Arizona and led them to a 1-2 record in that span. They got their first victory with him as starter on Monday against the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 27-17.

Brissett is a 10-year veteran quarterback who has started 56 total games across his career with a 20-36 record in those contests. So far this season he has thrown for 860 yards and six touchdowns to one interception in addition to 51 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Arizona is 3-5 on the season and looking to gain some momentum after Monday night’s win snapped a five-game losing streak. In addition to the Murray injury, Arizona also lost running back James Conner to a season-ending foot injury in Week 3.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Murray is in the second year of a five-year contract worth $230 million. He is signed through 2028 with a club option for the final year of his deal.

This isn’t the first big injury that Kyler Murray has had in his career. The QB also suffered a torn ACL in the 2022 season that caused him to miss six games that year as well as the first nine games of 2023.

The Cardinals will hope that he can return this year, but ultimately must do what’s best for his long-term health. However, Troy Aikman said Monday night that he isn’t so sure Murray would remain the starting QB even when healthy.

“I don’t think they will [put Murray back as starting quarterback],” Aikman said. “I don’t think you can, quite honestly, because it wasn’t like they were playing good offensively while Kyler Murray was playing. The best football’s been the last three games. This win, this is big. And I don’t know how you then send Jacoby Brissett to the bench.”
