Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray suffered a foot injury in the most awkward way imaginable in a stunning loss to the Tennessee Titans. And his status for this Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts remains up in the air.

Murray was a non-participant at the team’s practice on Thursday, further throwing his status into doubt. ESPN’s Adam Schefter, among others, reported the news.

Just seconds before he exited the game against the Titans on Sunday and headed to the locker room, Murray had taken a snap off his face. The ball ended up in Tennessee’s hands, and moments later Murray headed to the locker room to get his injury looked at.

Kyler Murray apparently injured his foot while trying to jump on the fumble. That happened late in the third quarter, with Arizona leading Tennessee 21-6.

He would later return to the game, but he has been limited ever since. Schefter provided a further update on his status on Thursday morning on ESPN’s Get Up.

“Big questions in Arizona surrounding their quarterback, Kyler Murray, who’s dealing with a foot injury. Didn’t practice yesterday. They’re saying he’s day-to-day,” Schefter said. “He came back in and finished the game against Tennessee, so that usually is a sign that a player is able to play the next week. But, if he can’t, Jacoby Brissett would come on and start against his former Colts team in Indianapolis this weekend.”

Remarkably, even with Kyler Murray back in the fourth quarter, Arizona would blow a big lead to Tennessee. Running back Emari Demarcado dropped a ball just prior to crossing the goal line, which prevented the lead from being stretched out to 28-6.

Tennessee would rally for a 22-21 win. It’s one that stings on multiple fronts for Arizona, especially with Murray hurt.

Murray is 110-of-161 (68.3%) for 962 yards, currently averaging career lows in passing yards per game and per attempt, with six touchdowns and three interceptions. He has also run for 173 yards and another score.

In his very short appearance with Murray sidelined, Brissett made one pass for an incompletion. He’s known to be one of the more capable backups in the league, though, as, in a decade-long career, he has made 53 starts in 89 appearances for five franchises now.
