Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was involved in a sideline altercation with a fan in the middle of a game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. After the game he addressed the issue, which was caught on camera.

Jackson shoved the fan after the fan, wearing Bills colors, reached out and pushed the helmet of both DeAndre Hopkins and Jackson. The duo was celebrating a touchdown hookup with teammates near the sideline.

The incident immediately went viral, with the league office likely to take notice. Jackson addressed his part in it after the game.

“I forgot where I was a little bit,” Jackson said, per Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. “You’ve got to think in those situations. I’ll learn from that.”

The incident could mar what was otherwise an excellent night for the electric quarterback. The touchdown pass, a 29-yard strike to Hopkins that was hauled in with one hand in between two defenders, was an absolute beauty. It put Baltimore up 34-19 in a riveting contest.

Buffalo would come back to win the contest 41-40 in an absolute thriller. So not only do the Ravens have to deal with the Lamar Jackson incident, they also blew a golden opportunity to secure a marquee win.

During the game, broadcasters Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth reacted to the incident after the fact on the call for NBC. Neither justified Jackson’s actions in response to the fan, but they each understood that it was after a fan may have bee doing too much at Highmark Stadium.

“Obviously, both in the wrong there, but you can’t be pushing the players when you’re a fan there as well,” said Tirico. Collinsworth followed up.

“I think Lamar saw the first one, and then took one himself,” Collinsworth said. “I’m not excusing. I know there’s no way you’re allowed to go after fans in the stands, almost no matter what happens. But, sometimes that gets a little ridiculous too.”
