Tonight, Layne Riggs led all but 40 laps at Indianapolis Raceway Park on his way to the finish for his second win of the season. In a similar fashion to last year, Riggs has won two races late in the NASCAR season and appears ready to make some noise going into the playoffs.

When it comes to short track racing, I’m not sure there is anyone better than Layne Riggs in the Truck Series. I would say Ty Majeski, but he hasn’t shown up this season like he has in the past.

Riggs is having a great season. In the playoffs, he has Bristol, New Hampshire, Martinsville, and Phoenix to look forward to. Those races play right into this wheelhouse. While Corey Heim has been dominant, there is no guarantee he will be the champion.

Is Layne Riggs making a push for the championship? If Front Row Motorsports keeps bringing trucks like this, he will be in the Phoenix four for sure.

Now, before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s put things into perspective. Layne Riggs and Chandler Smith, Front Row teammates, both have two wins. Combined, they still have fewer wins this seaosn than Corey Heim.

Corey Heim also locked up the regular season championship today. There are two more races in the Truck Series regular season. He leads Chandler Smith by 143 points after tonight. His dominance this year is unprecedented, and he continued to be impressive today despite the 4th-place finish tonight.

Riggs was fantastic all night long. Corey Day had a strong run and finished P2 for a career-best. Could it be coming together for the Hendrick development driver? Stewart Friesen, who is locked in with a win at Michigan this season, was P3. Grant Enfinger finished P5 in his effort tonight.

Layne Riggs gets another win in Truck Series

Last season, Layne Riggs took a while to get comfortable. This year, he had a bit of bad luck in the beginning of the season and a few times where his truck just wasn’t up to standard. However, things have started to click again for Riggs and his team.

The win at Pocono a few weeks ago was major. It showed that they could still get the job done. Heim has had his all-time great season, and that’s good for him. But Riggs has been really solid and is a real threat to win the championship, depending on how the playoffs go.

If there is a hole in Heim’s skillset, it is on the short tracks. He has not won at a short track yet this season. His wins have come at Daytona, Las Vegas, Texas, Charlotte, and Lime Rock Park. Heim’s last short track win came at North Wilkesboro in 2024. So, there is a real area of weakness for Riggs to expose in the postseason.
