Following his big win tonight at Bristol, Layne Riggs had to have his pit crew put new tires on his Ford F-150. The NASCAR driver blew his fenders off and melted his tires to the ground for the Tennessee crowd in the stands.

Layne Riggs won tonight and advanced to the Round of 8. He now has a career-high three wins this season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. When this time of the year comes around, Riggs really starts to turn up the heat.

Speaking of heat, it was HOT down on the frontstretch after Riggs got done with his burnout. He was grabbing gears on the burnout and smoked out the crowd, his pit crew, and everybody else standing around.

Riggs didn’t give his tires any chance to survive. So, his pit crew had to get busy one more time. They slapped another set of tires on the truck, which were likely scuffed tires from the race, and got Riggs to Victory Lane.

Riggs now has the second most wins in the series his season all to himself. Only Corey Heim has more. Chandler Smith, Riggs’ Front Row teammate, has two wins on the season. No other driver has more than one win this year.

In the last seven races, Heim and Riggs are the only two drivers to win. Since Pocono, the two have split the races. Heim has four wins, Riggs has three. You could argue that the two drivers have been more or less equals when you just look at finishing positions. But that doesn’t tell the whole story. Heim has racked up stage points, stage wins, and a level of dominance rarely seen in the sport.

Layne Riggs gets another win over Corey Heim

It is amazing that for the last seven races, Layne Riggs and Corey Heim have essentially gone tit-for-tat. These are two drivers that are not really friends, either. The two have a rivalry that sparked this season as they have raced each other hard for wins and position all year long.

Heim does have legitimate gripes with Riggs. The Front Row driver and his aggressive driving cost Heim at least one win this year, North Wilkesboro. But NASCAR fans have been given great battles this season between the two.

Yes, Heim has the stats. He has a historically dominant season. Eight wins and almost 20 stage wins this year. But the beauty of the NASCAR Playoffs is that upsets can happen. Nothing is ever set in stone. Until the checkered flag waves at Phoenix, Riggs has a chance to steal this season away from Heim.

Layne Riggs won tonight at Bristol. He reminded everyone that this season is not over. He probably has his eyes on New Hampshire, Martinsville, and of course, Phoenix. How many more times will Riggs win this year?
