Erik Jones has inked a multiyear contract extension to remain with Legacy Motor Club through the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season, the race team announced Tuesday.

Jones, 28, will continue to pilot the iconic No. 43 car as he’s done since 2021.

“I’m looking forward to what we can build at LEGACY MOTOR CLUB. I’ve been with the No. 43 car for a handful of years and feel like I’m coming into some of the best years of my career. I am hoping to grow alongside LEGACY M.C. in the seasons to come,” Jones said in a statement.

Jones was once thought to be a candidate to replace the retiring Martin Truex Jr. in the No. 19 car for Joe Gibbs Racing. Jones raced for JGR from 2018-20 in the No. 20 car, but JGR instead opted to sign Chase Briscoe. Instead, Jones will continue on with Legacy, the team he’s been with since 2021 when they were known as Richard Petty Motorsports and later Petty GMS Motorsports before rebranding in 2023.

Jones has largely struggled since the team rebranding, finishing a career-worst 27th in the points standings last season. Through 23 races this season, he sits 28th in the points standings. He has, however, missed two races after suffering a spinal fracture at Talladega back in April. Still, he has posted just one top-10 finish, a P8 result in the Daytona 500.

Jones has three victories in 267 career Cup Series starts, the last coming in the 2022 Southern 500 at Darlington. He was the first driver to win three consecutive Rookie of the Year honors in all three Series (Truck Series in 2015, Xfinity Series in 2016 and Cup Series in 2017). Jones claimed the Truck Series championship in 2015.

“Erik is one of the most talented drivers in NASCAR, I’ve had the chance to race against him and have had a chance to watch him drive for other teams and the CLUB,” Legacy co-owner Jimmie Johnson said. “I admire his talent and am glad we will have him race for us for the upcoming years. Erik will be a key to helping us turn our program around and we look forward to giving him the tools he needs to go out on Sundays and race for wins and eventually a championship someday.”
