Levi Wallace decided to leave Buffalo for the first time in his professional football career, signing with the Steelers over the Bills this offseason. Finally, the former Alabama defensive back revealed the secret to his decision to choose Pittsburgh over a return to Buffalo.

“I was on the fence of either staying with Buffalo or going to Pittsburgh,” revealed Wallace. “Ultimately, when my agent called and he was like, You should think about going to Pittsburgh’, I said, ‘Okay, I’Il call you back, let me pray
about this’,” he told Justin Spears during The Wildcast Podcast. “Man, I’m just sitting there, just contemplating.

“I looked down and, bro, I had black and gold shorts on. I was like, you know what? There it is. The lord must want me to go to Pittsburgh, and I honestly just called my agent back and was like, ‘Man, let’s go, let’s do it.'”

Evidently, Wallace’s shorts were the sign he needed. Still, it didn’t make the decision any less difficult.

“It was a difficult decision for me,” explained Wallce. “I went back and forth with my agent. I think the prayer helped me a lot, but it doesn’t make it any easier. You have real relationships, build real friendships, real brotherhood. It sucks. At the same time, I can’t wait to get to Pittsburgh and start working there, too. It’s business. Business is business.

“I look forward to the opportunity to be in Pittsburgh and create the same relationships and friendships in that city.”

While he was undrafted out of Alabama, Levi Wallace has made a name for himself in the NFL. Now, the former Buffalo Bills defensive back will be looking to continue his rise up the ranks with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Moreover, Levi Wallace’s arrival coincides with the end of the Ben Rothlisberger era for the Pittsburgh Steelers, with a franchise quarterback not currently on the roster. A move was made for Mitch Trubisky but he is not thought to be the next guy up for head coach Mike Tomlin, with another quarterback soon to be added to the roster.

When Tomlin was asked exactly how Pittsburgh was going to get another signal-caller, he said most likely through the upcoming 2022 NFL draft. He did not specify if it would be in the first round or later on, but he did say heading into April, the plan is the select a quarterback in Las Vegas.

“Probably the draft I think is our target as we sit here today,” Tomlin said. “There’s so many moving parts in draft development. That’s our target but we’ll see what happens and transpires. Obviously, how the names come off the board have a lot to do with that.”

Heading into the draft, the Steelers have the No. 20 overall pick, where there could be a couple of quarterback options available. Malik Willis of the Liberty Flames has been a trendy pick recently, while hometown guy Kenny Pickett of the Pittsburgh Panthers should still be on the board as well. Ole Miss‘ Matt Corral, who is coming of an ankle injury suffered in the Sugar Bowl, is considered to be the final first-round quality quarterback.

Pittsburgh will have options if they indeed spend their first-round pick on the position. Trading up may be necessary as well, with other quarterback-hungry teams inside of the top 15. The future of the franchise could be decided by this decision, especially if the quarterback is taken.
