This morning, reports out of the Formula One world shook all of motorsports. Lewis Hamilton has signed a deal with Ferrari. Hamilton, the seven-time F1 world champion is set to leave Mercedes in 2025.

Sir Lewis Hamilton, the British superstar, is making a major move. In his career, Hamilton has won 103 races, earned 197 podiums, and has claimed seven championships, including four in a row from 2017-2020. He has done all of that in just 332 races and before the age of 40.

Mercedes and Hamilton are just about as synonymous as Dale Earnhardt and GM. In recent years, the performance has not been there from the constructor. They have not given Hamilton what he needs to win races, let alone win an eighth championship.

It has been two seasons since Hamilton won a race. So, after 2024, the legendary driver plans to make his move to Ferrari, where he hopes to return to his winning ways.

Outlets such as BBC, Sky News, and Motorsport.com reported on the move. Things advanced quickly from talks to the actual signing.

This is like Dale Earnhardt Jr. going to Hendrick Motorsports. Kyle Busch going to Richard Childress Racing. This is like Jimmie Johnson and Richard Petty representing Toyota! Massive news, unforeseen news, and implications that we won’t know of for at least a year if not longer.

With racing’s biggest superstar making the switch to Ferrari, what else is in store for F1?

Lewis Hamilton signing latest Ferrari power move

Folks, Ferrari is rising up out of the ashes. They are tired of finishing behind teams that don’t have the history, the prestige, or the iconic look of Ferrari. With Lewis Hamilton, they are going to take one more step up towards the dominance that they have historically enjoyed in all motorsports.

Let’s just go back to last season. Ferrari wins the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the overall winner. Then, just last week, they went to the 24 Hours of Daytona in the GTD Pro class, and they won that race. Now, they have added Sir Lewis Hamilton of all people – this is their warning shot to F1 after taking it to WEC and IMSA.

Already, the Ferrari stock price has risen in the United States, and even with increased interest in the sport, Americans aren’t the biggest audience for F1.

When I think of racing, sports cars, endurance races, F1 – I think of Ferrari. As a casual observer, I’d say the brand makes the product more interesting when they are competitive. It remains to be seen if anyone can match the speed of Red Bull after last year’s rather boring championship battle.

Ferrari has until 2025 to get their cars up to speed for Lewis Hamilton. Will we see more parity in F1 in the next couple of seasons?
