Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown points to President Trump, does signature dance as TD celebration

President Donald Trump is in attendance for the Washington Commanders’ showdown against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. After hauling in a 9-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown paid homage to Trump by pointing to his viewing suite and doing his best impression of the president’s dance.
Trump is not only watching Amon-Ra St. Brown and the rest of the players today, but he will be participating in the broadcast. In the third quarter, Trump is expected to join FOX commentators Kenny Albert and Jonathan Vilma in the booth for an interview.
Trump’s presence at the game is no accident. Earlier this week, ESPN reported that Trump wants the Commanders to name their planned $3.7 billion stadium after him.
“A senior White House source said there have been back-channel communications with a member of the Commanders’ ownership group, led by Josh Harris, to express Trump’s desire to have the domed stadium in the nation’s capital bear his name,” ESPN wrote. “The new stadium is being built on the old RFK Stadium site that served as the team’s home from 1961 to 1996.”
It’s not the first time Trump has requested something from the Commanders. In July, Trump called for the Washington Commanders, along with the Cleveland Guardians, to revert to their previous names, which were left behind in hopes of avoiding racial insensitivity.
“The Washington ‘Whatever’s’ should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “There is a big clamoring for this. Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a storied past.

“Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!”
After a period of civil unrest in the United States following George Floyd’s death in May 2020, Washington was under more pressure than ever to change its name. A letter signed by 87 shareholders and investors worth a combined $620 billion was sent to three companies that are sponsors of the NFL and/or of Washington’s team: FedEx, PepsiCo and Nike.
The signees had a simple but massive request: Cut ties with the Washington Redskins unless they changed their name. Just nine days later, Dan Snyder, who was the organization’s owner at the time, announced Washington would be retiring the Redskins name and logo.
For two NFL seasons, Washington played as the Football Team before officially changing their name to the Commanders in 2022. Now, Trump is asking the Commanders to name their new stadium after him.
