Lonnie Johnson Jr. seals Saints preseason win with clutch interception
LA Chargers QB Easton Stick had a chance to win the game for his team in their second contest of the preseason earlier tonight. However, New Orleans Saints CB Lonnie Johnson Jr. had other plans.
On fourth down with under a minute to go, Stick aired one toward the endzone to try and give the Chargers the lead and the win. After he was hit during his throw, though, Johnson came over, picked it off for an interception at the front of the goal line, and slid down just past the five-yard line to ice it for New Orleans.
Johnson is a fifth-year corner in the NFL out of Kentucky. After two seasons with the Wildcats, he was a second-round pick by the Houston Texans in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Over four seasons with Houston and the Tennessee Titans, Johnson has played in 56 games and totaled 183 tackles and three interceptions.
Johnson signed a one-year contract with the Saints this offseason. In a pair of preseason wins for New Orleans, he now has four tackles and a pair of pass deflections in the secondary to go along with his interception.

Former Clemson star Bryan Bresee has been a dominant force on every level of football he’s played on thus far. On Sunday evening, he showed the New Orleans Saints exactly why they decided to take a chance on him late in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft.

He’d been getting first-team reps with the Saints’ defensive line in fall camp. It’s not surprising to now see that carry over to the actual games. He just needs to stay healthy overall. Bresee battled numerous injuries throughout his college career with the Clemson Tigers. But if he can stay on the field? There’s no question that the 6-5, 300-pounder is oozing with a jaw-dropping amount of potential and talent.
Coming out of high school, Bresee was one of the most decorated prospects ever from the state of Maryland. He earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors in the state back in 2018. According to the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2020 cycle, Bresee was the No. 1 overall prospect in the country that cycle.
