The rivalry between the Washington Football Team and the Dallas Cowboys is one of the NFL’s age-old classics. Now, another chapter is being written in the history of the game — with sideline benches at the forefront.

When Dallas traveled to Washington in Week 14, the Cowboys brought their own benches. The team cited issues that befell the Seattle Seahawks when they visited Washington, but the Football Team didn’t take it lightly.

Now, Washington is continuing the pettiness — bringing their own benches as a response to Dallas.

As if the game between the two rivals needed anymore juice, Bench-gate now is at the forefront of their Sunday Night Football showdown. Evidently, Washington is hoping their benches can bring them a victory — much like they did for the Cowboys when they visited.

“In response to the Cowboys bringing custom benches to Washington for an outdoor game 2 weeks ago, WFT has brought temp-controlled benches to Dallas for tonight’s indoor game,” tweeted The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “Cowboys could choose to open doors & roof. The expected outdoor temp at kickoff: 73.”

The rivalry is heated. Evidently, so are the benches the Washington Football Team brought with them to Dallas. The pettiness is at an all-time high for Sunday’s game.

More on Washington Football Team at Dallas Cowboys

Washington was one of the hottest teams in the league, but it hasn’t been smooth sailing since Dallas came to town. After a hard-fought loss to the Cowboys, the Football Team was stricken with COVID.

To illustrate, positive tests forced their game against the Philadelphia Eagles to be moved to last Tuesday. In the game, Washington lost 27-17 while starting a quarterback who wasn’t even on their roster prior.

Still, Washington has their playoff hopes in their own hands. Over the remainder of the season, the Football Team faces only division foes — Dallas in Week 16, the Eagles next Sunday and the New York Giants to end their season in Week 18.

After winning the NFC East last season, Washington is looking to get back to the playoffs. The start of their run could come on Sunday against Dallas.

As for Dallas, Washington will be looking to end the hot-streak the Cowboys are on at the moment. Mike McCarthy’s squad has won three straight games — bringing them into contention for the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Washington against Dallas is a game worth much more than bragging right or determining who has the best benches. Playoff hopes and seeding hangs in the balance in primetime.
