Atlanta Braves select LSU pitcher commit Cam Caminiti in 2024 MLB Draft

LSU baseball commit and left-handed pitcher Cam Caminiti has been selected in the 2024 MLB Draft ahead of what would be his first year of college ball coming up in 2025.
Caminiti went to the Atlanta Braves with the 24th overall pick of the first round.
He will now have the choice whether to sign with his new MLB team and immediately begin his professional journey, or to stick with his commitment to LSU and play three seasons in college before he could get selected once again.

If he does decide to stay and play as a pro, Caminiti will become one of the very youngest players in the entire American pro baseball system, since he was originally a Class of 2025 recruit. However, he decided to reclassify and is now one of the younger prospects in the ’24 cycle — but apparently, still very promising no matter how much younger he is.
What MLB experts are saying about Cam Caminiti
As for the type of player Caminiti is, read up below on MLB.com’s full scouting report of the fresh draft pick and potential future Tiger.
“Caminiti was thought to be one of the best players in the 2025 Draft class when he reclassified for 2024,” says MLB.com. “That makes him one of the youngest players in the class, who is 17 years old at the time of the Draft.”

MLB.com adds that he’s even a two-way player, although pitching is the strong suit.
“A solid two-way player who could be a prospect as a hitter, he separated himself on the mound with strong performances on the summer showcase circuit and continued his dominant performances back home in Arizona this spring.”
Here was a further breakdown of the stuff Caminiti has been dealing in order to catch the eys of scouts:
“Caminiti has the potential to have four legitimate pitches in the future, with projection to all of them. He already throws plenty hard enough, with a fastball that can touch 98 mph and sat 93-95 mph this spring, and scouts feel there’s more in the tank. He commands it well and it misses a lot of bats thanks to ride and carry up in the zone combined with deception in his delivery.
“He can show a distinct curve and slider, though both can get loose because of inconsistent finish, and there is a bit of a split camp among scouts over which is the better offering, but he answered a lot of concerns about his feel to spin this spring. He hadn’t used his changeup much at all prior to this year, but it became a real go-to pitch for him, giving him another at least above-average offering.”
Somebody is getting a very young and promising pitcher in their dugout.
