Making Babies: Connor Zilisch lights up press conference on Dover trophy comment

Last night, Connor Zilisch convincingly won a rain-shortened NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Dover Motor Speedway. He now has two Miles the Monster trophies with his win in the ARCA Menards Series last year and the win this weekend.
Connor Zilisch is uber-talented and skilled. He has four wins this season, and they have come on a variety of race tracks. He’s so good on the track it is easy to forget that he’s just a teenager. He will turn 19 in a few days.
In the post-race press conference, Zilisch cracked up reporters with his response when asked about his new Miles the Monster trophy. This kid is going to make people fall in love with NASCAR again.
“Yeah, it’s awesome. When I got it last year, it was probably the coolest trophy I had, except for my Rolex, and I think my Rolex still takes the cake on that one,” Zilisch said, via Cole Cusumano of Speed Freaks. “But this was a close second, I think. And just to have two of them is even cooler. I don’t know what I’m going to do with two of them. Maybe I can make a baby with two of them and have a third one. But, yeah, these trophies are awesome and hopefully, I’ll get some more in the years to come.”
Connor Zilisch is a special talent, but he’s also great on the mic. This is a superstar in the making. Next year in the Cup Series, but it isn’t official yet, he will be with Trackhouse Racing. He will get his chance to race for his first full-sized Miles the Monster trophy.

Connor Zilisch made a statement with Dover win
The win at Dover was major for Connor Zilisch. He now has wins at Watkins Glen, COTA, Pocono, Sonoma, and Dover. While everyone viewed him as a road course ringer or akin to Shane van Gisbergen, that isn’t the case.
SVG is about 17 years older than Zilisch. He was racing professionally in Supercars at 17. He did that until he was 34. Half his life was spent primarily doing one type of racing. And he’s one of the best in the world at what he does, truly. No other F1 or Supercars or IndyCar driver has been able to match the success of SVG in the Cup Series in the Next Gen car. Not even Jordan Anderson in a Hendrick Chevrolet.
Zilisch is very young, he’s malleable. His skillset is not so rigid and ingrained in his mind that he can’t adapt to other things. He can take in a lot more information and a lot more styles of racing than a 35-year-old racer. So, it’s not a shock that he’s been great at all types of tracks this season.
In his last eight races, Connor Zilisch has three wins and no finishes worse than P5. His average finish in that time is 2.25, and that happened at a variety of tracks. Charlotte, Nashville, Mexico City, Pocono, Atlanta, Chicago Street, Sonoma, and Dover. There’s nothing he can’t do at this point.
