Malik Nabers suggests New York Giants are being made to 'lose on purpose' in since-deleted post

The New York Giants are 2-10 and losers of their last six after Sunday’s Week 12 road defeat to the Detroit Lions in overtime. Malik Nabers, out since suffering a torn ACL in Week 4, was perplexed at what he watched take place at Ford Field.
In a post on X, Nabers suggested the Giants are being made to “lose on purpose.” He has since deleted the post.
“Sometimes I think they b makin us lose on purpose!” Nabers wrote. “Cause it’s no way, bro you throw the ball instead of runnin it to make em burn 2 timeouts?? then you dnt kick the field goal.??? Then they have to go down and score!!! Football common sense!!!! Am I missing something?”
The sequence Nabers was referencing occurred in the fourth quarter. Up 27-24, New York marched down the field from its own 8-yard line. The 14-play, 6:54 drive came up empty, however. After going backwards on third down from Detroit’s 2-yard line, the Giants opted to go for six on fourth down, as opposed to going up six with a chip shot field goal. Quarterback Jameis Winston‘s pass to wide receiver Theo Johnson fell incomplete.
The Lions proceeded to go on a 13-play, 2:26 drive which ended in a game-tying field goal. Overtime it was and Detroit wasted no time. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs rushed for a 69-yard touchdown on the first play of the extra period. The Giants came up empty-handed on their overtime possession, giving the Lions the win.

Giants blow another late lead
With its latest defeat, New York tied an NFL record with its fifth loss in a game where they held a double-digit lead, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN. The Giants are 2-5 when leading by at least 10 points.
Of course, the Giants are working without Nabers, who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2024. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has also missed the last two games with a concussion, though Jameis Winston has played well in his absence.
It’s another lost season in New York and Nabers is frustrated. The entire organization is, as evident by the firing of head coach Brian Daboll earlier this month. Next season will bring along another new era in New York.
