Mark Sanchez stabbing: New details emerge in statement released by Indianapolis Police

Former NFL quarterback and current FOX Sports analyst Mark Sanchez is recovering after being stabbed late Friday night in Indianapolis. According to reports, the incident occurred just after midnight, with the former first-round pick turned broadcaster among the victims.
Initially reported to be in critical condition, FOX confirmed that Sanchez is now in stable condition and on the mend. The former Jets quarterback was in town to call Sunday’s matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders.
“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition,” FOX Sports said in a statement. “We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
New details later emerged via ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He shared an official statement from Indianapolis police, where authorities described the stabbing as an isolated incident between two men who are not local residents.
“IMPD is investigating a physical disturbance that happened near Senate Avenue and West Washington Street on October 4, 2025, around 12:30 a.m. The incident involved two adult males, resulting in one man receiving lacerations and the other sustaining injuries consistent with stab wounds,” the statement read.
“Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence. … Both men received medical treatment. The man with the apparent stab wounds remains hospitalized in stable condition.”

As you can tell, per the statement, the case will be reviewed by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for potential charges. It remains to be seen if Sanchez faces any punishment.
Meanwhile, the 38-year-old played 10 seasons in the NFL, most notably with the New York Jets, who selected him fifth overall in the 2009 NFL Draft out of USC. As a rookie, Sanchez helped lead the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances under head coach Rex Ryan, powered by an elite defense.
After his stint with the Jets, Sanchez spent time in Philadelphia, Dallas, Chicago and Washington before retiring in 2018. He transitioned into broadcasting soon after, joining ESPN as a college football analyst before moving to FOX Sports, where he now calls NFL games alongside Kevin Kugler.
Thankfully, Sanchez is in stable condition, despite remaining hospitalized. The sports world is happy to hear that, as he recovers from the frightening incident and looks to move on.
