Green Bay Packers receiver Matthew Golden is not expected to play Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles due to a shoulder injury, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Golden is listed questionable on the injury report.

It’s a big blow for the Packers, who were already without tight end Tucker Kraft after he suffered a torn ACL. Green Bay will now have to rely on other pass catchers such as Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson to shoulder the load.

A first-round pick out of Texas this offseason, Golden has had a solid rookie campaign thus far. He ranks third on the team in receiving with 23 catches for 262 yards, but has still yet to record his first career touchdown.

Golden is one of six Packers players listed inactive for Monday night’s contest, along with cornerback Nate Hobbs and offensive lineman Jacob Monk. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET at Lambeau Field.

More on Matthew Golden

The Packers selected Matthew Golden in the first round, and it was the first time in 22 years the team selected a wide receiver that high in the draft. He came to the team after a strong college career, playing the first two years at Houston before finishing out at Texas.

Golden helped the Longhorns reach the College Football Playoff semifinals during his lone season in Austin, where they lost against eventual national champion Ohio State. He finished the year with 58 catches for 987 yards and nine touchdowns.

Golden played high school football for Klein Cain (TX), where he was a four-star prospect. He ranked as the No. 176 overall player and No. 29 receiver according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.

Packers QB Jordan Love was excited about working with Golden when he learned that the Packers had drafted him this offseason. He recalled watching the receiver’s college highlight with the Longhorns and coming away extremely impressed.

“The speed speaks for itself. Running a 40-yard dash, any time you get a 4.2, that’s some blazing speed right there, so I’m excited to see how fast he is on the field,” Love said. “I’ve seen all the highlights, all the good stuff, so we’ll see once we get practice rolling and everything how good he is.”
