Amid his high-profile negotiations with the Dallas Cowboys, Micah Parsons is staying the course. He expects to “get mine no matter what,” he said in a recent update.

Speaking after a camp in Pennsylvania earlier this week, Parsons understands how the market changes every year and pointed out the impact the salary cap has on negotiations. Of course, the pass-rush market in particular saw a major shift this offseason as Myles Garrett signed a deal worth $40 million per year and T.J. Watt agreed to a contract to make $41 million annually.

All the while, Parsons and the Cowboys have been working toward a deal. As for what the number will be, the former Penn State star said he knows he’s in for a big payday no matter what.

“I’m just going to get mine no matter what,” Parsons said, via Penn Live’s Nick Farabaugh. “You know what I mean? Like, the markets change every year. Their salary cap went up, like, another 18% this year. So, if you want to know contracts, all the contracts are based off of percentage. Like, each player, a high-paid player, takes a percentage of the salary cap. So, it’s not really the number. It goes off by the salary cap.”

Parsons’ situation was already front and center following Garrett’s contract with the Cleveland Browns. That remained the case even after his comments earlier this week. Watt and the Steelers agreed to a three-year, $123 million deal on Thursday – making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league once again.

Trey Hendrickson has also been a key name in the pass-rush market this offseason as he looks for a new deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. Last year’s league leader in sacks, he requested a trade, but negotiations have not progressed much.

But Parsons pointed out he’s younger than Hendrickson, Watt and Garrett. That’s why he said his situation is a bit different than those three.

“They numbers got nothing to do with mine, and my numbers ain’t got nothing to do with them,” Parsons said. “Like, I’m younger than Hendrickson. I mean, [Aidan] Hutchinson’s coming off an injury. Everyone’s circumstances is completely different.

“Hutch is coming off his third year. Usually guys wait four years. So, it just all depends. Watt. I mean, he’s up there with Myles. So, you know, it’s different. Everyone’s circumstance is different.”

As conversations continue, Micah Parsons said he’s still planning to be at training camp when the Cowboys report next week. Even after Watt’s extension, though, NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported things were still in a holding pattern as of Thursday night.
