The Dallas Cowboys and star edge rusher Micah Parsons are in the midst of a contract dispute as he looks for a long-term deal with the franchise. Despite that dispute, he will reportedly be attending training camp when it begins.

Parsons’ decision to go to training camp is not an overwhelming surprise. He has previously signaled that he didn’t intend on holding out, despite that being a tool some players take advantage of during contract negotiations.

“Micah Parsons said he’s already made his arrangements for Oxnard and he will be there, along with his family,” Saad Yousuf reported earlier in July. “Parsons said he will be on the field, regardless of contract situation, but he was noncommittal on if he’ll be practicing in Oxnard without a new contract extension.”

The Dallas Cowboys recently revealed their training camp schedule. Tuesday, July 22nd, will open things for the Cowboys with their first team practice. Now, they know that Parsons is going to be there for it.

Parsons and his contract negotiations are coming shortly after the Pittsburgh Steelers gave their own star edge rusher, TJ Watt, a massive extension. That historic three-year, $123 million contract extension may just be the beginning of what Parsons could get, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“Watt’s, deal is just a baseline here for Parsons, who I expect to surpass all the pass rushers because he’s only 26 years old,” Fowler said. “He’s got the best four-year start to an NFL career as a rusher since Reggie White, so he’s in a prime position here to cash in a big way. The Cowboys are dedicated to doing something with Parsons. They have slow-played it a bit. We’ve seen this in the past with Dallas. Could be similar to CeeDee Lamb, who got his deal last year in about late August or so.”

Dallas Cowboys ripped by ESPN for not locking down star defender

The Dallas Cowboys have been criticized recently for how they handle major contract negotiations. In particular, ESPN analyst Harry Douglas unfavorably compared how they negotiated with stars to how division rival Philadelphia takes care of its players.

“It’s always some kind of chaos when it comes to contracts with the Dallas Cowboys. I will give Jerry [Jones] credit, he does pay his players, and as a former player, you love that. But at the same time, it’s two or three guys you could potentially keep on your roster or add to your roster if you do it at a time where it’s not urgent,” Douglas said.

“You look at the Philadelphia Eagles and the way they do things, they don’t wait until the last minute to pay their players. They do it beforehand so you don’t have these situations that the Dallas Cowboys find themselves in.”
