As preseason ends for the Dallas Cowboys, no end appears to be in sight when it comes to the Micah Parsons contract dispute. Questions will now be asked about his status leading into Week 1’s massive showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles. Parsons has not backed down from his trade request in early August.

Dak Prescott is confident Parsons will be out there on Sept. 4. He expressed as such when speaking to the media on Monday, believing Parsons is physically ready to play. At the same time, while some wonder if the whole saga has been a distraction, Prescott pushed back on the idea.

“Dak Prescott is confident that Micah Parsons will be on the field Week 1,” The Athletic‘s Jon Machota said via X. “Dak thinks Micah will be ready to play. He doesn’t think it’s been a distraction for the team.”

Parsons has enjoyed a successful career against the Eagles, always two of the more important games on the schedule in Dallas. In seven games played, he has recorded 29 tackles, six tackles for a loss, eight quarterback hits, five sacks, and even a forced fumble. Pretty good against a division rival but the Cowboys want him to add on.

Until we get closer to the game, nobody will truly know where Parsons stands. For now, hearing a positive report from QB1 is something fans can hold onto.

Adam Schefter gives latest on Week 1 status of Micah Parsons

There is more to Parsons’ status than just the team’s inability to get a contract done. Back tightness has been a theme throughout the latter stages of the offseason for him. Parsons most recently laid down on the trainer’s table during Friday’s preseason game against the Falcons.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter provided the latest, from an injury perspective. “Limited” is the word used by Schefter, partially because Parsons has not been out there practicing.

“We are getting close to the start of the regular season opener. He has not practiced this summer due to a back injury, back tightness,” Schefter said on Get Up. “Now, the Cowboys took an MRI on it, said it came back clean. I think Micah Parsons would tell you that his back is tight. Doesn’t feel right, so he does not practice … He’s got a tight back. The Cowboys regular season opener is a week from Thursday night in Philadelphia, and the fact of the matter is, if he’s out there at all, he’ll be limited because he hasn’t gone through practice at all.”
