Throughout his NFL career, Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons has been among the best pass rushers in the NFL. Now, there is hope that he and the Cowboys are going to be able to come to terms on a contract extension.

Now, Stephen Jones, Dallas’ COO and co-owner, has shared a telling quote on where negotiations stand. Both sides want to come together on a deal. It just hasn’t happened yet.

“I don’t comment on close or far away or any of that,” Stephen Jones said. “Those things usually, when the right things come together, and everybody’s ready to do a deal, then it happens. Certainly, we want Micah here, and he knows we want him here. I think, ultimately, we’ll get something done.”

This comes just days after Jones made similar comments about the negotiations with Parsons. He even called them “a work in progress” at the time.

“I’ve never been one to crystal ball when contracts get done,” Jones said. “You can be close, you think you’re right around the corner, and then they get pushed out, and there’s extenuating circumstances as to why they or their agent don’t wanna pull the trigger. So, that’s just a work in progress. It’s never easy to comment on them because you really don’t know where you are until both sides are ready to go. But, obviously, our goal is to, and we have visited at times with Micah, and our goal is to get him here. And I think Micah wants to be a Cowboy, and we want him to be a Cowboy long term.”

Despite rumors that the negotiations could lead to a holdout, Parsons has confirmed he’ll be at Cowboys camp. Still, ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler shared that the Cowboys tend to make this kind of deal later in the window to do so. Still, Dallas knows the price tag is likely going to be between $35-$40 million.

Both negotiations for large extensions for quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb extended into camp to get done. Those ended up being massive deals and the Cowboys are prepared to again pay top dollar for one of the league’s best defensive players.

Micah Parsons opens up about contract extension talks with Cowboys

Micah Parsons recently shared that going to camp is important for him to hit the ground running this season. That’s why he’s going to participate amid extension talks.

“It’s extremely important. I mean, you really see a lot of players struggle when guys aren’t participating in camp and they’re getting off to slow starts. Don’t wanna get off to a slow start. I wanna hit the ground running and establish ourselves in this league and get some wins early in the season and be in rhythm. It’s gonna be extremely important for me to get going and lead these guys,” Parsons said.

“That’s the challenging part, is getting fully what you’re worth. But I don’t really think it’s about the dollar amount. I think it’s about how someone thinks of you. It’s only about how much someone thinks you’re worth, you know?”
