Micah Parsons is uncertain for his Green Bay Packers debut against the Detroit Lions Week 1, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He’s been dealing with a back injury.

“Packers LB Micah Parsons has been dealing with an L4/L5 facet joint sprain in his back and he may take an epidural injection prior to Sunday’s game vs. the Lions if needed to help him play, per sources,” Schefter wrote on Twitter/X. “Before trading Parsons last week, the Cowboys prescribed him a five-day plan of an anti-Inflammatory corticosteroid, a prednisone to help him recover from back tightness.

“They also had him on a physical therapy program.  Parsons has been practicing this week and he is trying to play in Sunday’s opener vs. the Lions, though one source said it still is uncertain if he will.”

Parsons said that he was feeling great physically during his introductory press conference with the Packers. He planned to meet with team doctors and work on piecing a recovery plan together and assured that he’s working diligently on his return.

That said, Parsons hasn’t been active at all during fall camp with the Cowboys or the Packers. Although, Fowler revealed that isn’t cause for concern.

“I do know that Parsons, when he was in Dallas, despite his hold in not practicing, he was doing two a days on his own,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed. “He was running, he was lifting, he was a part of all the meetings the Cowboys coaches felt legitimately that he was getting himself ready to play.

“So it’s not like he’s just been sitting around for a month. He is ready to go. They want to get him out there, they just see that he could be on a bit of a pitch count.”

Parsons said himself that Green Bay didn’t “give up what they gave up” for him to simply sit on the sidelines. The 26-year-old pass-rushing star expects himself to be on the field when the Packers open the season against the Detroit Lions at home on Sept. 7.
