After the Dallas Cowboys’ final preseason game of the year, Trevon Diggs told reporters Micah Parsons had an MRI Friday on his back. Diggs also said he didn’t know if the star linebacker would play in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Parsons was in attendance for Friday’s preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons, but declined comment afterward. Diggs, however, stopped to answer questions, according to The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

When asked whether Parsons will practice next week – the last before game week – Diggs said he wasn’t sure. He reminded the reporters in attendance of Parsons’ back injury.

“I don’t know, his back is kinda tight,” Diggs said, according to Machota. “He had to get an MRI today. “I don’t know.”

As he walked into Mercedes-Benz Stadium for Friday’s final preseason matchup, Parsons made a phone gesture toward Falcons fans, inviting the organization to call him. He has been seeking a new contract with the Cowboys, which would likely make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, but no deal has come together. Parsons then went public with a trade request Aug. 1.

Throughout the process, Dallas owner Jerry Jones hasn’t shown much willingness to discuss a deal with Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta. He reiterated that stance during an interview with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith that released Friday, saying there likely wouldn’t have been an impact on the talks.

“In the spirit of not doing the old mother-dad deal – how many times have you seen the old rascal, so clever, go in there and mama told him, ‘No, you’re not going to get it.’ And goes to daddy who only sees him after 5:00 in the afternoon and wants to love him and says, ‘You can have it, son. You can have it before dinner.’ And he goes back in and say, ‘Mama, daddy said I can have it.’ So, mom and dad have been around since the beginning of time,” Jones said.

“I’m not going to go for that shit here. That’s what’s happening. … I’m not going for it. We’ve had a very, very strong negotiation. By the way, frankly, it wouldn’t have made a difference what the negotiation was. Guess who has to be comfortable for this to work? [Micah], and who else? [Me]. Hell, there’s not room for a third. There’s not room for a third.”

All eyes are on Week 1, though, as Micah Parsons’ situation continues to shift. The Cowboys will take on the Philadelphia Eagles Sept. 4 in the first game of the NFL season.
