Micah Parsons made his debut with the Packers after a whirlwind arrival in Green Bay over the last couple of weeks. It went swimmingly for the star defensive player and his new team in Week 1.

The Packers defense dominated the Detroit Lions and their usual high-scoring offense. Afterwards, Parsons was giddy — he took some time to explain what his first game in the green and gold meant to him, and how special it was.

“I can’t lie, it gave me chills,” Parsons responded, regarding what it meant to suit up for the Packers via CBS Sports. “This environment, the first time, how they embraced me, the fans — this was one of one. This was really just a blessing in disguise. My man J Love [Jordan Love] told me it would be this nice, and nothing he could’ve said — I couldn’t imagine it’d be like this.”

While Parsons didn’t have to be his usual game-wrecking self, he helped Green Bay win their first game of the season over a hated division rival. His sack against Jared Goff sent the crowd into a frenzy, and let the star defender know he’s going to be just fine with the Packers.

Additionally, Parsons also commented on the heavyweight matchup between him and offensive tackle Penei Sewell of the Lions. He enjoyed the matchup with him and their offensive line throughout the course of today’s opener, with it being the first of many meetings of Parsons-Sewell over the next few years in the NFC North.

“I just feel like, to start the game off, it was just like, you know, Penei, Penei, Penei. And, it’s just Micah, you know what I mean? So, I just feel like I embraced the matchup and, you know, you got to win those matchups,” added Parsons. “And then, later on in the game, they gave me my respect, came back with the chips, the slides and that’s the type of respect that is warranted. But you got to earn it out there on the field. You know, I got to go show them that I can beat their best, and that’s what happened.”

“But, you know, that’s going to be a rivalry for the next four or five years. I’m not gonna be able to get rid of him. He’s a hell of a player,” Parsons said. “I told him, I said, ‘You’re my new rivalry now. Like, I don’t got Lane (Johnson) no more. It’s going be you. I’mma see you twice a year, so we might as well buckle up. It’s going to be a long one.’”

All told, the trade of Micah Parsons was ground-shaking for all of the NFC, let alone the NFL. That includes offensive lines around the division, with him set to come at them for several seasons now as part of the Packers. If Sunday was any indication, Green Bay might be the team to beat in the entire league.
